John DiCicco Obituary

John DiCicco Obituary

John DiCicco, age 85, passed peacefully at Hope Hospice in Providence on June 2nd. He will be dearly missed by his loving daughters, Sarah and Pasha, their respective husbands, Derrick and Pietro, and cherished grandchildren: Matteo, Isabella, Mekhi, and Sara Rose. Born in Providence on January 4th, 1941, he was the son of the late Mario and Jennie DiCicco and brother to the late Ines Gramolini. He is also survived by his nephew Michael, his wife Ann, and his grandnephew Mike. John served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. John was a special friend to many people and was known for his generosity, curiosity, love of art, gardening, cooking, and traveling, especially to Italy. He loved his independence and kept his mind sharp by reading and learning Italian and Spanish. His love of art was an essential part of his life, as he became a high school art teacher and then a Professor of Ceramics at Providence College for 42 years, where he had the opportunity to teach and work with many wonderful people, often participating in special programs in Europe and teaching in Italy several times. John loved teaching and creating art, and he showed and sold his beautifully crafted clay creations. Each pot, dish, or platter made by his hands reminds us of his unique vision and creativity. The family will make private arrangements, and we encourage donating to Brown Health Cancer Institute at Miriam Hospital in Providence in lieu of flowers. We know he will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
