With heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved father, brother, uncle, cousin and friend, James Silvia Jr., 79 on Saturday, October 4, 2025. Born in Providence, RI, James aka “Junior” was the beloved son of the late James Silvia Sr. and Jenny Silvia (Amado). The eldest of six children, he is survived by his brothers John, Domingo and sisters Judy, Joyce, Janice; daughters Lauren and Celeste Duarte, sons James Silvia III, Preston Lewis and Domingo Pratt; predeceased sons Jeffrey Duarte and Justin Winfrey; a grandson and a host of loving cousins, nieces and nephews.

Junior has lived in Bridgeport CT, Los Angeles and San Francisco and was known not only for his artwork but for his love of professional boxing as well. In his early days he was quite the dancer and a promoter of some of the first black fashion shows in Providence. He worked for the sanitation department of RI as well as General Electric while in Bridgeport before moving on to restoring Victorian homes. Many may even remember him for drawing their self-portraits.

Junior will be deeply missed for his kind heart, sense of humor, legendary spirit and his art of storytelling. He has inspired generations of family members that have come after him with his wisdom and ability to persevere regardless of the circumstances.
