Sonia Mendez Torres, 69, of Providence, passed away on Friday, January 9, 2026. Born In Puerto Rico, she was the daughter of the late Pedro Torres and Auria Esther Mendez, and the beloved wife of the late pro-boxer Carlos Antonio Quezada. She is survived by her children, Ahmed Quezada, Ruthgalys Quezada Torres, and Waldemar Quezada Torres; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and her sister, Yolanda Calderon. Sonia worked in the jewelry industry for most of her life. She deeply enjoyed spending time with family and friends and was known for her loving, humorous spirit. Sonia loved her plants, her fish, Tokyo, and her dogs, Nenna and Kiki. She also enjoyed watching baseball—especially the New York Yankees—though she did attend a Red Sox game last summer. Sonia’s cooking was unforgettable, and she happily shared her recipes with anyone who tried to recreate her dishes. She attended the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Providence.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2026, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., followed
by a service at 4:00 p.m., at Mount Pleasant Funeral and Cremation Service, 168

Sonia Méndez Torres, de 69 años, de Providence, falleció el viernes 9 de enero de 2026. Nacida en Puerto Rico, era hija del difunto Pedro Torres y Auria Esther Méndez, y la amada esposa del difunto boxeador profesional Carlos Antonio Quezada. Le sobreviven sus hijos, Ahmed Quezada, Ruthgalys Quezada Torres y Waldemar Quezada Torres; 12 nietos; 10 bisnietos; y su hermana, Yolanda Calderon Sonia, trabajó en la industria de la joyería durante la mayor parte de su vida. Disfrutaba profundamente pasar tiempo con su familia y amigos, y era conocida por su espíritu cariñoso y divertido. A Sonia le encantaban sus plantas, sus peces, Tokio y sus perros, Nenna y Kiki. También le gustaba ver el béisbol, especialmente a los Yankees de Nueva York, aunque el verano pasado asistió a un partido de los Red Sox. La cocina de Sonia era inolvidable y compartía con gusto sus recetas con cualquiera que intentara recrear sus platos. Asistía al Salón del Reino de los Testigos de Jehová en Providence.
El velatorio tendrá lugar el sábado 17 de enero de 2026, de 2:00 a 4:00 p. m., seguido
