Obituary of Linda Wygant Chrostowski
Linda Chrostowski, age 72, of Rockville, Rhode Island, passed away on October 9, 2023. Linda was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother.
Linda was born in Newport, RI, a daughter of the late Kenneth and Marjorie (Fox) Wygant. Linda is survived by her loving husband, Joseph, of 47 years; her daughters Stephanie Gzybowski and Kimberly Roland and their respective husbands, Christopher Gzybowski and Andrew Roland, and her four cherished grandchildren: Emily and Alice Gzybowski, and Maggie and Joseph Roland; and her sister Karen Kerins, her brother Tim Wygant. Besides her parents, Linda was preceded in death by her brother, Ken Wygant.
Linda attended Rogers High School and furthered her education at Salve Regina University, both for her undergraduate and graduate degrees. She dedicated 30 years of her life to teaching in the Newport Public Schools system, primarily at Coggeshall Elementary School, where she taught 1st and later 5th grade. Linda was actively involved in the Reading Council and a member of the NEA Rhode Island.
In her retirement, Linda enjoyed spinning wool and felting, as well as tending to her chickens and beekeeping. Her passion for these hobbies brought her joy and fulfillment. Linda also served as a volunteer for Meals on Wheels in the Hope Valley area.
Linda found solace and community at St. Adalbert's Church, where she was involved in church activities, especially the senior citizens group.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in her memory to St. Adalbert's Church (Providence), a cause that was dear to her heart.
Linda's sense of humor and gift for making people laugh brightened the lives of those around her. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched. Her legacy of love, laughter, and dedication to education will continue to inspire those who knew her.
Her funeral will be held Monday, October 16, 2023, at 9 a.m. from the Mount Pleasant Funeral Home, 168 Academy Avenue, Providence, followed by a Mass Of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Adalbert's Church, 866 Atwells Avenue, Providence. Visitation will be in the Mount Pleasant Funeral Home on Sunday, October 15, 2023, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Burial will take place in St. Joseph Cemetery, West Greenwich.
