Joan A. Smith, 82, of Warren, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on December 31, 2017 at Hope Hospice & Palliative Care Center. She was the wife of the late Dr. George Smith. Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late George and Madalyn (Malone) Patton. Joan graduated from St. Xavier’s Academy of Providence, class of 1953. In 1956 she joined TWA as an airline stewardess based in NYC and served overseas routes to London, Shannon, Frankfurt, Paris, Athens, Cairo, and Rome until she married in 1962 and raised her family. She is survived by her son, George P. Smith, her daughters, D. Linda Smith and her wife Cathy Rocco, Katherine O’Donnell and her husband Thomas, and Janice Smith-Elliott and her husband Matthew, and her brother, George Patton. She also leaves her grandchildren, Dylan O’Donnell, McKenzie Elliott, and Ryan Elliott. Relatives and friends are invited to visiting hours Wednesday from 3-7PM in the Hoey-Arpin-Williams-King Funeral Home, 168 Academy Avenue, Providence. The funeral and burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations to Hope Hospice and Palliative Care, 1085 North Main Street, Providence, RI, 02904, would be appreciated.
