Obituary of Dorothy M. Brice

Please share a memory of Dorothy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Dorothy M. Brice made her transition from this life to the next on June 19, 2020, at her home in Rumford. Born in Providence in March of 1937, Dorothy was the daughter of the late Robert and Annie Mae (Robertson) Perry. She graduated from Central High School in 1954 and attended Johnson and Wales Business School, receiving a Stenographic diploma in June of 1955. She was employed by the federal government for 30 years and retired from the Los Angeles Air Force Base in 1997. She then relocated to Raleigh, North Carolina, where she resided for 5 years before returning to Providence. Dorothy's husband, Joseph Brice, Jr., preceded her in laying down this life; they were joined in marriage for forty-one years. Dorothy was an avid bowler and enjoyed league bowling for over sixty-two years. Her love of bowling took her all over the United States to participate in the women’s and mixed league tournaments. She loved playing bingo and enjoyed spending time at the casino. According to her daughter, Cheryl, Dorothy was the “Scrabble Queen.” Dorothy enjoyed playing with friends and family and continued to beat her opponents quite handily until her passing. A member of Ebenezer Baptist Church, Dorothy volunteered for the Pastor’s Aide Ministry and the Senior Usher Board. Dorothy leaves one sister to cherish her memory, Nann Hightower of Providence. Dorothy was here to mark and mourn the passing of other siblings, Ivory Perry, Ruth Isom, Ruby Pullum, Robert Perry, Jr., Norma Perry, and Shirley Smith. We rejoice that she is now in their company. Dorothy also leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Lisa and Cheryl; one grandson, Darrell Goss, Jr.; three nieces, Rene Isom of Providence, Leslie Elemo, of East Providence, and Caryn Smith of East Providence; four nephews, Melvin Boyd of Providence, Richard Perry and Bruce Perry of Providence, Everett G. Smith, Jr. (Roxanne) of Rumford, and a host of relatives and friends.
