Obituary of William John Tierney

Please share a memory of William to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
After a valiant fight with a long-term illness, William (Bill) J. Tierney passed away at home, surrounded by family, on the evening of October 7th, 2020. Bill was a long-term resident of Burrillville, RI. He was 85 years old. A Navy veteran who served honorably in the Korean war, Bill was born and educated in Woonsocket, RI. After earning his electrical license, he worked diligently for many years as a master electrician, eventually obtaining his general contractor license. He enjoyed a wide variety of hobbies, including golf, boating, fishing, and gardening, and he was always willing to share the fruit of his talents and hobbies with his family and friends. Bill also loved eating and cooking, and you could usually find him watching cooking shows to learn the tips and tricks of the pros. He had a determined and inquisitive mind and--thanks to modern technology--he never stopped learning how to do all kinds of things bigger and better. If anything needed to be fixed, his family knew they could always count on him to be up for the challenge. He was a generous and faithful father, grandfather, and friend who will be sorely missed. Bill was predeceased by his mother, Hildegard Marie Durand, of Woonsocket, RI. He is survived by his three daughters: Patricia (Moore) of Hopkinton, RI; Donna (Gervais) of Burrillville, RI; and Jaime Lee (Tierney), of Burrillville, RI, and his beloved grandchildren: Benjamin, Hannah, and William Moore; Austin and Luke Gervais; Anthony Tierney and Andrew Pickett. There will be no calling hours. A private cremation at Swan Point Cemetery in Providence, RI, will be held on Tuesday, October 13th. Burial will be in St. Charles Cemetery in Blackstone, MA. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation to the Providence Rescue Mission, located at 627 Cranston St., Providence, RI. (www.providencerescuemission.org).
