Francis “Frank” E. McHugh, 88, of Warwick, RI formerly of the Mount Pleasant section of Providence, RI, passed away Wednesday September 17, 2014. He was the husband of the late Phyllis M. (Geier) McHugh and the late Mary (Collins-Denda) McHugh. He was born in Providence, where he resided most of his life in the Parish of Blessed Sacrament Church. He was the son of the late Patrick and Elsie (Dinosky) McHugh. He was a retired asbestos worker of Local Union 31 and the RI Department of Labor and Training. Mr. McHugh was the business agent, financial secretary and treasurer, as well as trustee of the health, welfare and pension Funds of the Asbestos Local Union 31. He also held the position of President of the Local Union 2869 AFSCME Council 94, retiring in 1975. Mr. McHugh was a veteran of the United States Navy, 2nd class Petty Officer during both World War II and the Korean War. He was also an active volunteer in many organizations within Rhode Island which included Miriam Hospital where he was a Patient Liason Rep., The United Way, Travelers Aid, a driver for the Newport Hall of Fame, and the State of RI Office of Development and Training. During his lifetime he was an active participant of Blessed Sacrament Church, and Saint Benedict Church. He enjoyed most of all the time he spent with his family. He leaves a daughter, Karen M. McHugh of Mount Pleasant, Providence, two sons, Kevin F. McHugh, Esquire, of Providence, David C. Denda of Scituate, two grandsons Ryan and Sean McHugh, both of NY, one brother Donald McHugh, and one sister, Madeline Freiberger. He was the brother of the late William L. and John J. McHugh. His funeral will be held Saturday at 9am from the Hoey-Arpin-Williams-King Funeral Home, 168 Academy Ave, Providence, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in Blessed Sacrament Church, 179 Academy Ave, Providence. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Saint Ann’s Cemetery, Cranston. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours will be Friday from 4-7pm in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Blessed Sacrament Endowment Fund, 239 Regent Avenue, Providence, RI 02908.
