Please share a memory of Stephen to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
92 of Providence Rhode Island passed away in his sleep at his home on December 13th, 2020. He was the husband of the late Florence (Dionisi). As a child he grew up on Federal Hill surrounded by his many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was the eldest of 5 children born to Charles and Mary (Catuto). He leaves behind a sister Carmela Forster from Alabama and a brother Richard Marsella who resides in Arizona. He was also the brother of the late Mary Golato and Anthony (Din) Marsella. In his adult life Steve worked as a meat cutter for Marcellos until they closed. He then moved onto Coastal Foods. He was a veteran of the US Army during the Korean War where after a year an injury put him on kitchen duty. It was there that he perfected his culinary skills and became a fabulous cook! People still say he made the best pizza ever!!! After retirement he enjoyed gardening, watching the Yankees, listening to Frank Sinatra, bowling and playing bocce. Steve always had a kind word and a smile. Those who remember him say he was the perfect gentleman. He was a man of great faith rarely missing a weekend mass. He cherished his family, a daughter Gail Vartian and her husband Paul, a son the late Stephen Marsella Junior, his grandchildren Stephen Marsella III and his wife Dr. Sandra Motta, Stacy Almeida and her husband John, Edward Vartian and wife Shayna and Kevin Vartian and his fiancee Megan Cole. He got the biggest kick out of his great grandchildren Skyla Rae Almedia and Ivy Rose Vartian. Family and Friends are invited to a Mass on December 21st at 9:00 at Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary church located at 1081 Mineral Spring Ave. in No. Prov. Burial will be private.
