Obituary of Elaine Ann Ross

Please share a memory of Elaine to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Elaine Ann (Bucklin) Ross of Providence, Rhode Island, age of 86, passed away peaceably at home on March 11th, 2021. Born in Providence, a daughter of the late Leonard N. Bucklin and Aline M. (Imbeault) Bucklin-Flynn. Elaine, at the brave age of only sixteen, was a 2nd lieutenant cadet with the Civil Air Patrol (CAP) Rhode Island 16 Wing. She helped build a plane with Lieutenant Sullivan at the former Hendrick St, School, which is supposedly still under the ground of the said former school. She also flew in a Cessna 120, single-engine, two-seat, light general aviation aircraft with her Lieutenant Mario Russilo. The story she told was this…that day, he was going to do a barrel roll but didn’t, and it’s a GOOD thing, as she said she didn’t have a lap belt on and would’ve fallen out of the plane! Elaine was a high school graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School and excelled in stenography, which led her into her business career. I can recall her stories of working in a downtown office steno pool and her haughty boss. One week he came back from Cuba, I believe, and threw packs of cigarettes at the office steno girls, and well, Elaine threw hers back at him and told him to keep em! She married her sweetheart Paul D. Ross and thereafter had six children while still being a working mom. Elaine worked in a management capacity for Adams Drug Company; which became Brooks Pharmacy and later Rite-Aid Pharmacy, until her retirement. She loved her cooking shows and was always the avid enthusiast in search of a quality new recipe or delightful dessert. Elaine was a history buff, and through the pages of her novels, she traveled to many a country, including her beloved Scotland, of the famed Connor MacLeod clan. I’d have to say one of her funniest quirks was this…she had to read the end of a book first and then would fully read it through, as she would state: “I have to know what happens!” Therefore a mystery show to her was intriguing too, as she couldn’t always figure out what was to happen. Elaine leaves behind her children; Karen A. Ross of Providence RI, Lynn M. Ross of Oakland CA, Rebecca J. Ross of N. Stonington CT, Michelle L. Ross of Providence RI, Scott E. Ross, and wife Nicole of Portland OR and her granddaughter Chloe Ross of Portland OR. She was preceded in death by her husband Paul D. Ross, her son David A. Ross and her sister Marilyn (Bucklin) Snyzyk-Blain. She is survived by her siblings; Karen (Bucklin) Skog of Jacksonville, FL, Leonard E. Bucklin of Slidell, LA, as well as her sister-in-law Dorothy M. Scully, nieces, nephews, and a few good long-time friends. A private interment was held at Swan Point Cemetery in Providence, RI.
