Obituary of William Joseph Carraher
Please share a memory of William to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
William J. Carraher, 87, passed away peacefully at his home in Lincoln RI surrounded by family on March 16, 2022. He is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years Claire E. Carraher, their four boys William, Daniel, Timothy and Michael, ten grandchildren and many family and friends. With the help of his sister Anne M. Heeder, committed relations and lifelong friends he overcame difficult circumstances to achieve successes uncommon to many even in ideal conditions.
In 1970 he married the love of his life Claire E. Carraher soon moving to Derry New Hampshire where they resided for 38 years. In 2000 he retired from a 28-year career at Interactive Data Corp. in Waltham, MA. During retirement he and Claire often traveled throughout the entirety of the contiguous United States living on greasy diner food, cheap motels in questionable neighborhoods and causing a light hearted ruckus among strangers along the way.
In 1968 he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Providence College and in 1976 received a URI MBA. We will all miss his clever wit, calm demeanor, unfettered generosity and dedication toward those warmed by the glow of his kind soul. His hardworking and ambitious nature was tempered by generosity to educational institutions, his community and above all his wife and children. His intellect, experience and understanding guided others through few, but carefully chosen words spoken with kindness and humility
He was not a man of flamboyance, notoriety or dramatic action. His heroism hid in the shadows of those he placed above and before himself. All that he worked for, struggled through and accomplished throughout his life was given to those blessed to be loved by him. The passing of this great man will go largely unnoticed by the world at large, but to those who loved him and were raised up by him he will be greatly missed and never forgotten.
His funeral will be held Tuesday March 22 at 9 am from the Mount Pleasant Funeral Home, 168 Academy Ave., Providence, followed by a mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in Blessed Sacrament Church, 179 Academy Ave., Providence. Visitation will be held Monday, March 21, from 5pm to 7pm. In lieu of flowers mailed donations may be made to Kindred Hospice. (2374 Post Road, Suite 206, Warwick RI 02886.)
