Kay was a radiant and joyful light. I knew he was special for the moment he walked into my Year Up classroom, and I could not have been more right! He was the type of student that made me proud to be a teacher. He entertained much but achieved most of all. His wit, brilliance, determination, charm, and resolve were not only infectious but inspiring. I admire how he set goals and crushed them. I appreciate how he had enough integrity to take my tough love and enough dedication to challenge himself. Look at all he did in such a short time! His bright smile and warm energy made my days better and it was my privilege watching him grow into a mature young professional. I appreciated his mind as much as his heart—he was one of my favorites! My deepest condolences to all family and loved ones. I do not have words that could satiate such incalculable loss, but my prayer is that the peace and comfort of God would surround you, even in such devastating grief. Caleb was, and yet is, well loved. He is both Black Boy Joy and Black Excellence personified. What a gift. I’m so thankful I got to experience his light.
