Augustus “Gus” Rainone, 92, and longtime resident of Johnston, passed away Thursday, July 9, 2015. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Giuseppi and Elvira (Sylvestri) Rainone. Gus served in the U.S. Coast Guard. He then worked as a maintenance man for Providence College for 18 years before retiring in 1989. He had been a member of the Cranston Bowl bowling league and was an avid golfer and hunter. He is survived by a son, David Rainone; four brothers, Carl, Angelo, Michael, and Joseph “Chick” Rainone; a sister, Anna Mansolillo; four grandchildren, Jennifer, Augustus, Anthony, and Danielle, and four great grandchildren, Augustus, Chase, Ryder, and Milo. He was the father of the late John “Jack” Rainone, and Augustus Rainone, and brother of the late Anthony and Jack Rainone, and Marie Gianfrancesco. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 10am in the Hoey-Arpin-Williams-King Funeral Home, 168 Academy Avenue, Providence. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Park, Johnston. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours will be Monday from 5-8pm in the funeral home.
