Obituary of Lorraine Catherine Burns

Please share a memory of Lorraine to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Lorraine C. Burns, 70, of North Providence, Rhode Island, passed away on July 2, 2022. Lorraine was preceded in death by her late husband, Augustus J. Burns III. She brought so much love, faith, hope, and joy to her beloved husband, family, friends, and those she encountered.

She was born in Worcester, MA, on August 13, 1951. She was the daughter of the late Vernon H. and Helen G. (McGair) Hubert. She is survived by her children: Katherine Viveiros, Daniel Tubman and his wife Rebecca Tubman, Laurie Marchand and her husband, Jason Marchand. She is also survived by Gus’ children: Christopher Burns, Deborah Burns, and Lisa Burns. She was the adored grandmother of eleven: Samantha Cayer, Nathan Tubman, Brandon Chamberlain, Marissa Tubman, Kayla Chamberlain, Michael Viveiros Jr., Alexis Burns, Nicholas Viveiros, Aidan Tubman, Daniel Tubman Jr., and Dylan Marchand, and one great-granddaughter Isabella Cayer. Lorraine also leaves many cousins, nieces and nephews, and dear friends who were like her family.

Lorraine leaves a legacy, as described by her family, as being loving, generous, vibrant, funny, supportive, positive, caring, and a little crazy. Lorraine had the amazing gift of making you feel like YOU were the most important person in the world.

Cherished wife, mother, grandmother, and community servant, Lorraine Burns’ greatest gift was that of self-sacrifice and servitude of others. For over 35 years, Lorraine was a caretaker of those in need during her time at Golden Crest Nursing Home, Summit Home Care, and many years of private home care.

While working for the Dioceses of Providence, Lorraine found her ministry to serve others. Lorraine identified the need for food and clothing for the community while working at St. Teresa’s Church and starting a food pantry. She continued this work with the Rhode Island Food Bank through the Olneyville Food Pantry until her retirement from this fulfilling work.

What her family and friends remember most is her amazing smile that lit up a room and made everyone feel like the hero of their own stories, an uplifting spirit of immense love and fierceness who NEVER met a stranger.

Her funeral will be held Saturday, July 9, 2022, at 9am from the Mount Pleasant Funeral Home, 168 Academy Ave. Providence, followed by a mass of Christian burial on Saturday, July 9, 2022, at 10:00 am in the Blessed Sacrament Church, located at 179 Academy Ave. Providence. Burial will follow in Mt. St. Mary Cemetary, Pawtucket. Visiting hours will be Friday, July 8, 2022, from 4:00pm - 7:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Rhode Island Food Bank, 200 Niantic Ave, Providence, RI 02907.
