Thelma D. (Brissette) Bourgeois, 91, of Providence, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, at Steere House Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, on Friday, October 2, 2015. She was the wife of the late Arthur J. Bourgeois. Born in Providence she was the daughter of the late Leo and Rose (Vivier) Brissette. She is survived by two children, Janice Stroessner and her Husband Paul, of Deltona, Florida and Robert Bourgeois of Providence; five grandchildren and their spouses Paul and Danielle' Stroessner, Tracy and Jack Whalen, Eric Stroessner, Candace Bourgeois and Marcus Thomas, Michele Bourgeois and Eladio Martin Tavarez, and five great grandchildren, Matthew, Megan, Tayla, Jaden, and Paige; a brother, Bernard Brissette of Warwick and several nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Beatrice Mercurio. Mrs. Bourgeois was a Quality Control Inspector at CiebeNorth for more than 25 years before retiring. Thelma had regularly golfed at Melody Hill Country Club, and bowled at Town Hall Lanes. She was a member of the Smithfield Senior Center. Thelma was also an avid bingo and word game player at Steere House. In addition, she had the ability to wow family members and friends with her skills at quickly solving Wheel of Fortune puzzles - often with only one or two letters showing on the screen. A funeral service will be held Thursday, October 8, 2015 at 11:30AM in the HOEY-ARPIN-WILLIAMS-KING Funeral Home, 168 Academy Avenue, Providence. Burial will follow in RI Veteran’s Cemetery, Exeter. Visiting hours 10-11:30AM prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Home & Hospice Care of RI, 1085 North Main Street, Providence, RI 02904.
