Obituary of Maxine Valerie Barnes

We celebrate and cherish the life of Maxine Valerie Barnes, age 72, who departed on August 4, 2022.  Our beloved “Max” was born on January 7, 1950, in Providence, RI, to Donald Taylor and Vivian Perry and lived a life of laughter and love. 

 

Maxine graduated from Saint Patrick’s Academy, where she aspired to academic and spiritual excellence.  She continued her studies, receiving her Associate's at Rhode Island Junior College.  Maxine was a true “Rhode Islander”.  She remained in the Providence area throughout her life’s journey, touching so many along the way. She worked as a customer service representative for the New England Telephone Co, Cox Cable, and Jay Strongwater before leaving the workforce.   

 

Maxine attended Holy Name Church and was a member of the choir. She enjoyed bowling, and spending time with her loved ones, was a great listener, and had a boisterous laugh that would fill a room.  She was an outstanding artist - a talent that she kept hidden.  She took pride in keeping her hair styled and getting her nails done, and she could dance the night away in a pair of high heels.  She was a devoted & loving mother, a considerate and patient sister, and a loyal friend. 

 

Faith, family, and friends were foremost in Maxine’s life, which was felt by all with whom she interacted.  Maxine is predeceased by her father, Donald Taylor.  She is survived by her mother, Vivian Taylor; her partner, Robert Young; her brother, Donald Taylor II (Dolores); her sister, Sakinah Munir; her daughter, Anika Husband (Kali); granddaughter, Imara Husband; nieces, nephews, cousins as well extended family and friends who loved her dearly. 

 

The family would like to extend gratitude for all your love and support.  A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 20, 2022, at 11 am at Holy Name Church 99 Camp Street Providence, RI 02906, followed by a repast at The Cape Verdean Progressive Center 329 Grosvenor Avenue East Providence, RI 02914.
