Janina Zalewski, 75, of Johnston, RI, passed away peacefully on May 7, 2023. Born in Poland,

Janina was the daughter of the late Piotr Porowski and Marianna (Pienkowska,). She is preceded

in death by her late husband, Tadeusz Zalewski, and brother Marian Porowski. She leaves

behind her two children, Henry Zalewski, spouse Deana, and Lucyna (Zalewski) Diogo, spouse

Anthony. She was the loving and proud Babcia to Alysha, Julianna, Kaylin, Greyson and

Charlotte. She is survived by her siblings, Tadeusz Porowski and Andrzej Porowski.

Janina worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant for 35 years at the Visiting Nurses of Rhode

Island. She loved her work and her patients. She was a devoted member of St Adalberts

Church for more than 40 years. She was a member of the church choir, a lector at mass, was on

various church committees, and ran the kitchen for many parish festivals. She was a member of

the PNA and was involved in running the Polish National Home for several years.

For all extended family members and friends, Janina will be remembered as a person who was

always there to help someone. People valued her opinion and knowledge. She loved to spend

time with family and would often be the one who would start a sing-a-long. She was a great

cook, and no one would leave her house hungry. She touched many people along the journey of

her life, and she will be greatly missed.

Her funeral will be held Wednesday, May 17, 2023, at 9am from the MOUNT Pleasant Funeral Home, 168 Academy Ave., Providence, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in St Adalberts Church, 866 Atwells Ave, Providence. Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 16, 2023, from 5pm - 8pm in the Mount Pleasant Funeral Home. Burial will be private. Arrangements made by Supinski and Borrelli Funeral Home.
