Obituary of Tyrone "Ticky" Powell

Please share a memory of Tyrone to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Tyrone Powell, aka Ticky, was born November 14, 1952, and left us Friday, March 15, 2024, at the age of 71. He died peacefully at the Hulitar Hospice Center. He was not alone as he lived his life to the fullest as he leaves behind his 5 children, Ebony Gray, Tyrone Clarke-Collins, Carl Fairweather-Gray, Tyrell Clarke, and Deanya Clarke- Powell while also leaving his 14 grandchildren, Damari Gray, Anthony Gray-Price, Nae'trell Gray-Price, Sa'qure Gray, Ny'asiah Gray-Price, Jaquell Gray, Zariah Fairweather- Gray, Az'unique Gray, Ahkeem Kenner, Tyrell Clarke jr, Saniyah Clarke, Alionna Fairweather-Fay, Aamira Kenner, and Miquel Gray. While also leaving behind the surviving siblings Sandra Powell and Virginia Powell and is now with his other siblings Ruth James, Mary Peters, Wallace Powell, Joe Powell, Emaline Powell, John Powell, and Veronica Gomes. Bernice Powell and John Nalls are the creators of our loving and ruthless soul, Tyrone Powell. Tyrone loved his Children with all his heart, and there wasn't one day he didn't mention any of his children or grandchildren, also leaving behind his wife of 31 years with the name of Debra Powell.

Ticky was with all the jokes, and not once did he crack on you because that's just the way he showed his love. There are days we all had when Tyrone brightened the day without knowing he put the spark in the dim spot people had. And with that, lots of us may cry because he was a very special person to most of us. Ticky was born and lived for 9 years in Newport, Rhode Island, but moved and was raised in Providence, Rhode Island until he was old enough to leave himself and return again. He was an advanced child even though he didn't need to be. Tyrone made sure every night his mom and siblings ate and was warm at night. We can always depend on Tyrone to break the silence in an empty room and bust out a dance move to any song that comes on. His favorite artist was Jay-Z, and his two favorite genres were gospel and R&B. Ticky was very much attached to his faith life and made sure to thank God for every blessing he had. He made sure his grandchildren and children carried on with the faith he had with God and the belief of who God was. Tyrone had the fighting ability and was actually a person who stood on business when he said he had what it takes. Ticky is also leaving behind another soul he loved dearly, and this animal is named Princess. Princess is a dog, but to him, that was his dawg. He truly had love for her and she made sure to return the same energy. These two together were a bad mixture and always had something going on. Tyrone and Princess were an unstoppable duo and couldn't ever be stopped when they were with each other. Even though Ticky Tyrone isn't here with us today to hear what we all have to say, he is still listening and watching over us each day we live on. He made sure before he left this world, he was with his immediate family and showed them the love they needed before his passing. We all love us some, Tyrone, but it was time for God to call him home. The years will pass, and the time will, too, but you shall never forget these moments Ticky shared with you.

Tyrone's service will be held Saturday, March 23, 2024, from 11am to 1pm in the Mount Pleasant Funeral and Cremation Service, 168 Academy Ave., Providence.
