Obituary of Mary L. Washington

Mary L Washington passed away on July 30th, 2024, in Virginia Beach, VA. She was born in North Carolina and was the daughter of the late Matthew and Laura Tolson. She enjoyed working as a caretaker for many. Mary enjoyed being around her family. She loved to dance and had the voice of an angel, which she shared with many people by being a church choir member. Mary enjoyed fashion. She enjoyed her heels and purses. Mary would take the shirt off her back not only for her family but also for her friends. She loved being around her family and always cared for them. She welcomed anyone with open arms. She would still give it if she knew you needed anything, even though she didn’t have it. Mary was the type of person who would light up the room when she was in it and also the life of the party. She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph C. Washington, the loving mother to the late Terri Rivers, and grandmother to the late Alfred Rivers Jr. Mary was the sister to the late Mac Tolson, Vivian Edwards, and Odell Tolson. Mary is survived by two sons, Alfred Rivers Sr. And Clifton Rivers. She leaves behind three sisters, Lilly Beatty, Minnie Smith, and Odessa Daniels; one brother, Robert Tolson; fifteen grandchildren; and twenty-six great-grandchildren. Mary will be truly missed by all and never forgotten.
