Mary Jane Gilmartin, 80, of Providence and formerly of Cambridge and Somerville, MA, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 21, 2024. She was born in Cambridge, MA, a daughter of the late William and Kathleen (Meehan) Gilmartin. Mary graduated from Cambridge High and Latin School and worked at Maytag and then Boston Safe Deposit and Trust for many years before her retirement. She was an avid animal lover, a long-time volunteer at the Fernald School in Massachusetts, and a dedicated parishioner of Blessed Sacrament Church, Providence. She leaves her loving siblings, Joan Ballard and her husband Warren, Alice Richey and her husband Ed Lee, Carol Boyle (her twin sister), Patricia Casiello, Diane McMillen and her husband Stephen, Richard Gilmartin, and Susan Craig, and her sister-in-law Ann Gilmartin. She was also the beloved aunt of many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. She is predeceased in death by her siblings John Gilmartin, William Gilmartin, Ellen Gilmartin, and Jean Gilmartin. Donations in her memory may be made to the RISPCA 155 Plan Way, Warwick, RI 02886.

Her visitation will be held on Thursday, October 24, 2024, at Mount Pleasant Funeral and Cremation Service, 168 Academy Ave, Providence, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Blessed Sacrament Church, 179 Academy Ave, Providence, at 11 a.m. Burial will be private.
