John F. Nickerson, 76, of Portsmouth, Rhode Island, passed away at Fatima Hospital on August 29, 2023. He was the devoted son of the late John F. Nickerson, Sr., and Elsie S. Nickerson, his wife, 105-year-old mother, and brother of his deceased sister, Karen Nickerson Grisdale. He is survived by his cousin, Carolyn Hough of Ann Arbor, Michigan, and his brother-in-law, Richard Todd Grisdale of North Providence, Rhode Island.

John graduated from Hope High School in Providence, attended Wentworth Institute, Boston, and enlisted in the US Air Force. He served most of his tour of duty in Hokkaido, Japan, as a Staff Sargent. Upon returning to the States, he continued his education and graduated from URI with a BSEE degree, Northeastern University with an MSEE degree, and the University of Massachusetts with an MCS degree. He worked as a Systems Analyst for Raytheon for 33 years.

In John's youth through college, he served as acolyte and crucifer at St. Andrew's Church, Providence. He was a 30-year volunteer at Habitat for Humanity, South County, and a 10-year volunteer photographer for "Water Fire" Providence. He will be sorely missed by his many friends and his grieving mom.

A service will be held on Friday, September 1, 2023, at 11 a.m. in the Hoey Funeral Home (Mount Pleasant Funeral Home), 168 Academy Avenue, Providence. Burial will be private.
